Metis emerged during the seventeenth century in Western Canada. Metis means mixed blood, this group had mixed ancestry. They were offspring of the french fur traders fron North West Company or British and Scottish fur traders from Hudson Bay Company and Cree, Dene and Ojidway women as there population increased they made a new Aboriginal culture and language. Thier language is "Mitchif" mixed with french, english, cree and Ojibway. the First Nations People survived for thousands of years so the fur traders Benefited from there First Nations wives for the knowledge of the land and resources. Metis were very vital in the roll of the fur trade. North West Company supported marriages between the First Nations People yet Hudson's Bay Company did not approve of such marriages between First Nations People and thier fur traders. Metis were great workers for the fur traders because of thier skills as a voyageurs, buffalo hunters, interpreters and knowledge of the land. The Metis had two flags with the same design an Infinity sign but different color Red was the color for the Hudson Bay Company and Blue for North West Company.
